The operation expanded into the city where some reports have put the number of insurgents at up to 2,000 insurgents. The latter have made certain areas like Baba Amr and Baba Sba’a impossible for police to enter to protect residents.

Indeed thousands of police, military, security forces and civilian supporters of the Syrian government have been killed, kidnapped, terrorised, detained and tortured by insurgents from the so-called “Free Syrian Army” since the beginning of the crisis 11 months ago. This has been most comprehensively documented in video and other form by the non-governmental Syrian Centre for Documents.

The dust has still not settled in the suburbs of Damascus, which in recent days has seen some of the fiercest fighting, claiming scores of lives. And as the unrest runs high, Moscow has offered itself as a stage for dialogue between the regime and the opposition, who are currently rejecting talks with President Assad. The idea of the Syrian opposition dancing to the foreign drum is shared by John R. Bradley, author of the book 'After the Arab Spring'. He says NATO members are committed to toppling the regime to make Iran their next target.

Is it possible to believe for a moment, a government, whatever it is, could commit such a massacre on the day his case is brought before the Security Council?...

In the service, Al Jazeera shows the mother crying, while she embraces her child. Then you'll see the interview released by the very same woman, who reveals that the baby was not killed by the Army, but by the very same entities that the Army is fighting.


…Those who followed the TV that day have seen pictures of many victims. Most of these victims had their hands tied behind their backs and some had their faces to the ground.

The directors told us that they were the victims of the bombing of buildings and houses by tanks and even by the Syrian Air Force. Curiously these victims were not wearing injuries nor [was there] any sign of the collapse of their houses and dwellings. Each can draw the conclusions he wants. In any case throughout the 4th of February, Syrian citizens testified that they recognised among the victims, relatives and neighbours removed for a week and even months.”

The principled stance taken by Russia which has unequivocally demonstrated that it will not tolerate violations of international law against Syria like those committed against Libya, primarily the violation of Syria’s right to be free from foreign interference in its internal affairs, was reaffirmed during Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s visit to Damascus with Russian Foreign Intelligence Chief Mikhail Fradkov.

Sources who were at the closed meeting between the officials and President Bashar al-Assad reported that Moscow politically and militarily supported Damascus’ military operation insisting that it was essential for a political solution to be achieved.

The Lebanese publication As-Safir commented that Moscow’s backing demonstrated its confidence that the Syrian government would remain in power, because “negotiations on behalf of a powerful state are more important than negotiations over a weak state… Moscow would not have provided all this support if they have doubts about the collapse of the regime.”

The report added that the shift in Russia’s stance, from successfully pressuring the Syrian government to delay military action and maintain a flexible relationship with the Arab League in return for guaranteed support at the UNSC, came after Qatari Prime Minister (whose state Presides over the Arab League) said to his AL counterparts: “Whatever you do I will send the Syrian file to the Security Council”.

Responding to why Moscow and Beijing have taken a different stance to Syria, following its failure to veto UNSC Resolution 1973 which lead to the NATO aggression that destabilised Libya, Manaï proposed that perhaps Russia believed the Resolution would be enforced “to the letter”.

The geo-strategic importance of Homs

First and foremost, the agenda is to protect the illegal zionist state which views the current Syria as a threat to its security. The zionist global elites’ long term plan to create a greater Israel would further occupy parts of Syrian territory and require the dissolution of all Arab states and their fragmentation into smaller ineffective states.

Part of this agenda includes a plan that was signed on July 25 2011 to construct a gas pipeline through Iran, Syria and Iraq that would be an alternative for the beleaguered Nabucco pipeline plans (also known as the Turkey-Austria gas pipeline) which is facing increasing problems because of growing western hostility to Iran which boasts the world's second biggest gas reserves and has long aspired to feed both the regional and European market without any foreign control or influence.

The Syrian city of Homs has been one of the focal points of the insurgents backed by the zionist global elite, and it is no coincidence that the Iran, Syria, Iraq pipeline project construction maps show that the pipeline must pass through that city. It is strategically important territory, and the terror currently being inflicted on its population by insurgents is intended to ensure they and their backers  gain control of it.

These acts of terrorism have been proven not only by Syrian sources - including state and independent television - but also by the report concluding the visit of the 166 Arab League observers in Syria. This was further discussed in an interview published yesterday with Tunisian observer and former UN international expert Ahmed Manaï.


And such repetition of the Libya scenario is also played out in the western and GCC media, which more or less ignores the widespread atrocities by insurgents, while fabricating, or as the Washington Post conceded, overplaying violence at the hands of the Syrian government. However the independent report cited by the Washingtong post received comparatively scarce attention by its fellow western media.

However, the zionist elite is more concerned about control of the world’s natural resources and the world’s wealthiest territories than it is about holding on to the geographical space it presently and illegally calls “Israel”. The Netanyahu school’s persistent pressing for aggression against Syria and Iran is suicidal in the latter regard. This at least demonstrates that they are prepared to sacrifice “Israel” as we know it in order to take control of Iraq, Iran and Syria’s resources.

Those three countries as they stand pose an economic threat to the zionist elite. And economic power means political power which in the hands of that elite would eradicate hopes for a semblance of global balance that existed in the days of the Soviet Union.

First foreign troops in Syria back Homs rebels. Damascus and Moscow at odds

DEBKAfile ------------------------- British and Qatari special operations units are operating with rebel forces under cover in the Syrian city of Homs just 162 kilometers from Damascus, according to debkafile’s exclusive military and intelligence sources. The foreign troops are not engaged in direct combat with the Syrian forces bombarding different parts of Syria's third largest city of 1.2 million. They are tactical advisers, manage rebel communications lines and relay their requests for arms, ammo, fighters and logistical aid to outside suppliers, mostly in Turkey.

Our sources report the two foreign contingents have set up four centers of operation - in the northern Homs district of Khaldiya, Bab Amro in the east, and Bab Derib and Rastan in the north. Each district is home to about a quarter of a million people.

Our military sources also report that Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 8, Assad sent the 40th Mechanized Brigade of heavy T-72 tanks to Homs for an all-out effort to beat the rebellion, counter the foreign contingents and reinforce the 90th Infantry Brigade commanded by his kinsman, Gen. Zuhair al-Assad, the backbone of the military force battering the city for the past five days at the cost of hundreds of dead.  

The presence of the British and Qatari troops was seized on by Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan for the new plan he unveiled to parliament in Ankara Tuesday, Feb. 7. Treating the British-Qatari contingents as the first foreign foot wedged through the Syrian door, his plan hinges on consigning a new Turkish-Arab force to Homs through that door and under the protection of those contingents. Later, they would go to additional flashpoint cities.

In the close to eleven months of the Syrian revolt, Erdogan has hatched more than one scheme for countering the Assad regime's savage crackdown on dissent. His most persistent was a plan for the creation of military buffer zones to shelter rebels and civilians persecuted by the Syrian authorities. But nothing came of those plans because, every time they came up, Assad reinforced his contingents on the Turkish border and deployed air defense and surface-to-surface missile batteries. He made it clear that the first Turk crossing the border would spark a full-scale war.

It is hard to say at this point whether the latest Turkish leader's current plan is any more practical than his earlier schemes. For now, he has put the ball in the American court.  Wednesday, Feb. 8, he sent Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu to Washington to ask for the Obama administration's cooperation. The Turkish prime minister is also in urgent consultation with Saudi and several other Gulf rulers in the hope of bringing them aboard.

The British-Qatari troop presence in Homs was at the center of Assad's talks in Damascus Tuesday with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Russian SVR intelligence chief Mikhail Fradkov. Senior Syrian intelligence officers laid their updates from the field before the Russian visitors and received SVR data and evaluations in return.

Western intelligence officials familiar with the talks describe the atmosphere between Assad and the Russian officials as uneasy and tense. Later, Lavrov reported optimistically that he had received assurances from the Syrian ruler of an end to the violence, talks with all Syrian parties and an early referendum on a new constitution for political reforms. His account was no more than prevarication to conceal the opposite outcome of their talks. In fact, their conversation focused on more violence, namely, Assad's plans for his next assault on rebels and protesters and his military response to the rising covert presence of foreign Western, Arab and Muslim troops in Syria.

British Special Forces Training Syrian Rebels

eliteukforces.info ---------------- As government forces continue a brutal crackdown on popular uprisings throughout Syria, there has been growing chatter indicating that British Special Forces are in some way assiting forces aligned against the Syrian regime.

Reports from late November last year state that British Special forces have met up with members of the Free Syrian Army (FSA), the armed wing of the Syrian National Council. The apparent goal of this initial contact was to establish the rebel forces' strength and to pave the way for any future training operations.

More recent reports have stated that British and French Special Forces have been actively training members of the FSA, from a base in Turkey. Some reports indicate that training is also taking place in locations in Libya and Northern Lebanon. British MI6 operatives and UKSF (SAS/SBS) personnel have reportedly been training the rebels in urban warfare as well as supplying them with arms and equipment. US CIA operatives and special forces are believed to be providing communications assistance to the rebels.
